    Job Description / Primary Objective

    Under general direction of the Public Works Director, plans, organizes and supervises the activities and staff responsible for maintenance, repair and construction of City streets, sidewalks and storm drains.

    Knowledge of: Principles and practices of street and storm drain maintenance; types and use of automotive, construction and related equipment required in maintenance of street drainage facilities, streets, concrete infrastructure, paint and sign, and traffic signals; methods, tools, requirements, operating practices, laws, regulations and applicable codes related to the maintenance of street drainage facilities, streets, and other public works related activities and services; safety management; hazard and safety precautions of the trade and the CAL-OSHA requirements pertaining to maintenance work; principles and practices of effective employee supervision, including selection, training, work evaluation and discipline; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications; principles and practices of basic traffic engineering studies; pertinent local, state, and federal laws, ordinances and rules.

    Requirements (Education, Certifications, Level of Experience)

    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


    Education: Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.

    Experience: Four years of street maintenance and construction experience. One-year lead or supervisory experience is required.

    License; Certificates; Special Requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required. Possession of or ability to obtain within six months of employment and maintain thereafter, a valid California Class A driver's license is required.
