    Job Description / Primary Objective ABOUT AIS INFRASTRUCTURE

    The AIS Infrastructure Group is comprised of four heavy civil construction operating companies delivering complex infrastructure projects across the United States. Our work supports government and state agencies as well as private enterprise and includes highways, bridges, DOT projects, power plants, dams and reservoirs, underground utilities, and large-scale site development.

    AIS Infrastructure is built on execution, safety, and reliability in the field.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Master Mechanic is responsible for leading and coordinating the maintenance, repair, and readiness of AIS Infrastructure’s fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe, efficient project execution across construction and industrial services operations.

    Serving as the senior hands-on mechanical leader, the Master Mechanic provides technical oversight, mentors mechanics and technicians, and ensures maintenance work is performed to company standards, manufacturer specifications, and safety requirements.

    KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervise and coordinate the daily work of mechanics and technicians performing maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment.

    Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.

    Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across a broad range of equipment.

    Perform advanced repairs and maintenance on heavy machinery, trucks, and specialized construction equipment as needed.

    Review and oversee preventive maintenance inspections to identify and address potential issues before failures occur.

    Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance and repair activities, including work performed, parts usage, and equipment status.

    Coordinate maintenance and repairs with internal AIS Infrastructure mechanics and external dealers or service providers as required.

    Enforce compliance with AIS Infrastructure safety standards, procedures, and protocols at all times.

    Provide technical guidance and mentoring to mechanics and technicians to support skill development and quality workmanship.

    REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Strong technical knowledge of heavy equipment and vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

    Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.

    Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and support a team of mechanics and technicians.

    Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.

    High attention to detail and commitment to accurate maintenance records and documentation.

    Strong safety awareness and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
    Requirements (Education, Certifications, Level of Experience) EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training preferred.

    Minimum of five (5) years of experience in heavy equipment or fleet maintenance.

    Technical certification or degree in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics strongly preferred.

    Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance best practices and industry standards.

    Experience using diagnostic tools, equipment, and software relevant to vehicle and equipment maintenance.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS

    The Mechanic Foreman primarily works in a fully equipped maintenance facility and may occasionally be required to perform work at active job sites or outdoor locations.

    Potential hazards include working around heavy machinery, exposure to chemicals, and elevated noise levels.

    Physical demands may include lifting heavy components, bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing for extended periods.

    Work schedules may vary based on operational needs and may include evenings, weekends, or overtime.

    Limited travel may be required for job site support or training.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Proficiency with computer systems, maintenance management software, and diagnostic tools.

    Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members, supervisors, and internal stakeholders.

    Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues.

    High attention to detail to ensure accurate diagnosis, quality repairs, and proper documentation.

    Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.

    Professional, service-oriented approach when supporting internal customers and external vendors.

    PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    Physical requirements include lifting parts and tools weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing for extended periods.

    Mental demands include managing multiple priorities, working under pressure, and making timely, sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

    Ability to work in varying weather conditions when supporting field or job site operations.

    TRAVEL

    Travel to project sites or training locations as required.
