Job Description / Primary Objective |
The Project & Facilities Management Department (PFMD) is a team of dedicated professionals responsible for designing, building, and maintaining San Bernardino County’s vast infrastructure—over 250 facilities supporting critical public services. Our work directly impacts departments such as Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Fire Protection District, Sheriff, Probation, Regional Parks, County Administrative Offices, Libraries, Museums, and more!
PFMD has a current opening for a Supervising Capital Improvement Project Manager to oversee the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District’s (SBCFPD) capital project portfolio. This is a unique opportunity to lead a team of project managers dedicated to delivering fire stations, training centers, and emergency response facilities that support the firefighters who protect our communities every day.
Firefighters are the backbone of public safety, responding to emergencies and saving lives. As a Supervising Capital Improvement Project Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring they have the infrastructure needed to train, respond, and serve the County at the highest level. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting their mission by managing the design and construction of essential fire service infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
As Portfolio Manager, you will:
Lead & Manage – Oversee a team of project managers delivering SBCFPD capital improvement projects.
Drive Project Success – Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Strategize & Optimize – Develop and implement strategies to streamline project delivery and improve processes.
Collaborate Across Departments – Work closely with Fire Department leadership, contractors, and County agencies to meet operational needs.
Ensure Firefighter-Ready Facilities – Deliver fire stations, emergency response centers, and training facilities that enhance public safety and firefighter effectiveness.

SALARY:
$104,748.80 - $144,310.40 Annually

Requirements (Education, Certifications, Level of Experience) |
Minimum Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years performing professional duties related to project management, which involved design, procurement and construction of facilities for a public agency; two (2) years must be at the Senior level, with responsibility supervising/leading staff. Experience may be concurrent.
-AND-
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Project Management, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a closely related field.
Education Substitution: An additional two (2) years of qualifying experience as described above may substitute for the required education. |
