    Job Description / Primary Objective
    T H E P O S I T I O N
    The Construction Services Officer is an at-will position that reports to the Public Services Bureau Manager and leads the construction, inspection, and overall project management for asphalt and concrete repair projects within the public right of way. This includes managing work in the field, inspections, material testing, surveying, project records, contractors, and construction managers as necessary to complete the infrastructure improvements.

    The Construction Services Officer will ensure street, sidewalk, curb and gutter improvements are in compliance with industry and City standards as well as the American with Disability Act (ADA). The position requires coordination with utility providers to minimize impacts within the ROW while also collaborating to maximize efficiency. The position is responsible for scheduling , budgeting, coordinating , and communicating work that is underway and work that is forecasted. The Construction Services Officer supervises a team of surveyors, inspectors, equipment operators and tradespeople.

    The ideal candidate will be an organized, collaborative and hands on leader who thrives in a fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also be an experienced, results driven professional with strong communication skills. The position requires working with elected officials and the community at large on a daily basis to solve problems and complete projects. The ideal candidate must be politically savvy and have the ability to interface at all levels of the department and community. The ideal candidate will have experience managing construction projects within the right of way. Prior experience working with a City and/or within a coastal community is highly desirable.

    Requirements (Education, Certifications, Level of Experience) The Department of Public Works invites candidates to apply who meet the following minimum requirements:

    The City of Long Beach requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment unless a medical or religious accommodation is approved by the City of Long Beach’s Human Resources Department for the duration of the vaccine mandate.

    Education:
    A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.

    Experience:
    Seven or more years of professional-level experience in construction management, with at least five of those years at a management or supervisory level.

    Additional Requirements:
    Possession of a valid Class C Driver License.
