Job Description / Primary Objective |
Manages multiple construction engineering projects.
Monitors and reports the progress of the projects to supervisor as appropriate.
Monitors budgets and expenditures; reviews and approves project schedules; monitors project schedules to verify project is on time.
Conducts weekly construction meetings; prepares and distributes minutes; verifies all action items are being completed.
Reviews shop drawings as to conformed plans and specifications.
Prepares the list of required submittals; receives and reviews the Requests for Information (RFI) and submittals from the contractor; coordinate designer review and finalizes the process.
Coordinates construction activities with Port tenants as needed.
Negotiates and issues Contractor Potential Change Order (CPCO) under Director’s authority; prepares independent cost estimates; prepares change orders and contract compliance forms and verifies each approval is executed.
Performs project close-out by verifying all Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M’s), as-built schedules and drawings are complete and submitted.
Prepares Committee and Board Memoranda and Bureau Notes.
Works on call projects, change orders, and prepare presentations.
Prepares construction management service estimates for the assigned projects.
Attends pre-bid meetings and pre-bid job walks.
Prepares Notice To Proceed (NTP) so project can begin.
Verifies each construction project is set up in the appropriate construction management software (i.e. Unifier).
Performs constructability and bidability reviews to assist designers.

Requirements (Education, Certifications, Level of Experience)

Current registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California (proof required)*.
A valid driver's license and current DMV driving record must be submitted to the hiring department at the time of selection.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Construction management experience in any of the following areas: public agency, supervisory, airport, rail, traffic, land and building development, port/maritime, sustainable infrastructure development (LEED, Envision, ENV-SP, CEEQUAL, GreenRoads), and/or water/wastewater infrastructure development.
Working knowledge of scheduling software (Microsoft Project, Oracle P6); Project Management Software (Orion, Oracle Unifier), Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office products.
Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Project Management Professional (PMP), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP), Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) and/or Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD), and other engineering and project management certifications related to any of the areas stated above; ability to operate independently without extensive direction or oversight
