    Job Description / Primary Objective

    We currently have a great assignment for a Fire Protection Design Engineer. As a Fire Protection Design Engineer with RealStreet, you will be working on a Government contract to provide oversight duties for individual construction projects.

    Job Responsibilities:

    The Fire Protection Design Engineer position is based in Ridgecrest, CA, and will be responsible for providing review and contract drawings and specifications, including RFPs, for constructability and conformance to existing field conditions on projects with a value in the range of $5M-$400M.

    Additional duties include:
    - Preparing a government conformed set of contract documents
    - Participating in pre-award and post-award meetings including:
    - Preconstruction conferences
    - Schedule acceptance meeting
    - Design review meetings
    - Weekly progress meetings
    - Reviewing and approving contractor’s submittals for conformance with the requirements of the contract drawings and specifications
    - Reviewing and approving:
    - Shop drawings
    - Samples of material and components
    - Catalog information
    - Certificates of compliance
    - Value Engineering Change Proposals (VECPs)
    - Visiting construction sites to monitor progress and resolve construction issues in a timely manner
    - Providing technical solutions to unforeseen problems that arise during the contract duration
    - Assisting in identifying the need for a modification to scope, cost or schedule
    - Supporting the issuance of request for proposal by assisting in determining needed changes and writing technical scopes of work
    - Assisting in the preparation of an independent government estimates (IGE)
    Requirements (Education, Certifications, Level of Experience) Specific qualifications for the Fire Protection Design Engineer role include:
    - Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection from an accredited college or university
    - Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of fire protection engineering is highly desired
    - 5 years minimum experience as a fire protection designer/engineer on commercial or industrial type facility contracts with at least three (3) projects valued in excess of $10 million
    - Experience with analyses and calculations in the preparation and review of the following:
    - Detailed working drawings
    - Comparative cost analysis
    - RFPs
    - Project specifications for a wide variety of facility types for multi-discipline and fire protection engineering projects
    - Must be able to perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance for the following:
    - Drawings
    - Specifications
    - Calculations
    - Cost Estimates
    - Studies prepared by other engineers
    - Must have knowledge of industry codes and standards practices related to fire protection engineering including:
    - Unified Facilities Criteria
    - NFPA codes
    - FM Global Loss Prevention Data Sheets
    - SFPE Handbook
    - Software skills require three years (3) experience utilizing all aspects of:
    - Autodesk software
    - Fire protection engineering design and analysis software
    - Microsoft Office suite of applications
    - Ability to traverse construction jobsites
    - Must have a valid, current driver’s license
    - Must be a US Citizen
